EMILY BIAGION-PAULETTE, LEED AP
Who I Am
I am interested in working at a firm with a strong, modern design sense, and one that values creativity, innovation, and sustainability as basic design ideas, not extras. I would also like to work at a firm that challenges me to explore new ideas.
I have maintained high academic standards during both of my college tenures, and I have several years of professional experience as well. In my professional career I have worked on many projects of a variety of types, styles, and sizes. I worked well with other architects and designers at my firm, and with clients, our consultants, and city officials to create the best possible project. I also received my LEED certification in June 2009, something I am very proud of. I did not have much opportunity to use that knowledge in my previous position, but it is something I am looking forward to using in the future.
What I Believe
I believe that good design doesn’t have to be expensive. Small sites and challenging clients shouldn’t limit the possibilities of a project. Larger projects don’t need to max out the budget simply because it’s there - why not apply the lessons learned on small projects and apply them to larger ones?
I believe taking responsibility. That means admitting when I’m wrong and learning from my mistakes. But it also means being responsible for my own education and development. It means challenging myself to do something new or different, even if it might not work, because without a challenge, you can’t grow. You can’t plant a tree and then only water the ground at the trunk - the roots will never spread out and develop, and as soon as drought or disease hit, the tree will die. Instead, you have to water several feet out, past the drip line of the branches. Only then will the roots spread out and develop enough to withstand drought and disease.
I believe in holding myself to a high standard, personally, academically, and professionally. I believe in doing things right the first time. It may take a little more time and effort at the outset, but the end result is always better and more efficient. Doing the right thing isn’t always the easy or fun, but I can rest easy knowing I won’t have to look back in the future and regret my choices.
